Before driving across Canada and eventually ending up on the unceded and traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. Hannah Waktins was born in Barbados and grew up in Quebec. She is a multidisciplinary artist, with a degree in Design and Visual Arts. Currently, she is completing her BFA at Emily Carr University. In the last year, her practice has changed immensely since her recent diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This has been the catalyst for the new forms and concepts that she explores in her practice. She uses contemporary ceramics and printmaking to explore the experiences of living with what is often thought of as an invisible illness. She unearths and transforms what lies hidden below the surface by deconstructing the 34 lesions found in her MRI scans.

I am continuing my education this fall at Emily Carr as a Fourth year student, competing my Bachelors In Fine Arts.
The Fine Arts Program allows students to explore different mediums over the span of two years, developing students artist practice. I received the Painting Award for the program. and I graduated on the Deans Honour Roll.
The Design Formation is a multidisciplinary program that focuses on successfully working in the commercial world. It is a high intensive two year program that allowed me to grasp the design principles and I applied that into my Fine Arts.
